Join well-known Australian Ceramicist Marian Howell on a specialist small group tour to
explore some amazing traditional and contemporary Japanese ceramic techniques
in 4 pottery locations: Mashiko, Bizen, Shigaraki and Kyoto, a visit to spectacular Naoshima Art Island, and Miho Museum, all the while enjoying Japanese
food and culture!

Workshops are strictly limited to 15 potters, although non potting partners or friends are welcome to join us, so if you are interested, please don’t delay!

Highlights:

• Attend a 3-day workshop in Mashiko, and explore ceramic studios, museums & galleries.
• Participate in a 2-day workshop in Bizen with Mr. Kazuya Ishida, including a studio visit.
• Visit art museums in Tokyo such as the Mori Art Museum, 21_21 Design Sight, and the MoN Takanawa.
• Explore Inbe pottery galleries and ancient kiln site.
• Experience Naoshima Art Island, including the iconic ChiChu and Lee Ufan Museums, and Naoshima New Museum of Art.
• Take a leisurely stroll through Shigaraki Pottery Village.
• Tour the renowned Miho Museum designed by I.M. Pei.
• Free day in Kyoto with opportunities to explore ceramic museums and galleries, traditional craft districts, historic temples, and local markets.
• The group is accompanied by a Japanese guide/translator during included visits and workshops.

This tour will be led by the well-known Australian Ceramicist, Marian Howell who will provide expert commentary on ceramics during the tour. Marian is a past president of the Australian Ceramics Association, former Head of Ceramics at the National Art School and Ceramics Design Studio, currently teaching Ceramics part time.
