Tour Overview
The beauty and elegance of France is found at every turn on this lively textile tour. It opens with two days at the European Patchwork Meeting, an international quilting event with upward of 1,000 exhibited works, artist talks, and an amazing variety of vendors.
From there, a nod is given to the rich tradition of burgundy winemaking with an en route stop in Beaune. Continuing to Lyon, the focus returns to cloth with a visit to the Textile Museum, the world’s first such collection that traces 2,000 years of textile history.
Then it's on to sunny Provence, steeped in textile production and art. Fascinating stops include the Souleiado Museum, dedicated to the famous Indian prints produced in Provence; the Olivades factory and outlet shop, where the art of fabric printing is still in practice; and Soierie Vivante, where the last remaining 19th century weaving workshops are preserved. Adding inspiration and interest is a visit to Paul Cézanne’s studio and a tour of the ocher quarries in Roussillon, all part of the cultural and historical milieu of France.
