Following the very successful journey through Northern Japan in May 2018, a second tour of similar duration has been arranged to cover the Southern half of Japan in May 2019, utilising the 14 day JR Rail Pass as a base for travel. There will be a great mix of trains including Shinkasen, Cross Country Services, Private and Tourist lines including two Steam Hauled Trains.
This tour will start in Osaka and cover lines to the South East on the main Island of Honshu before crossing to Shikoku for a circuit of the Island’s scenic railways. Continuing on to Kyushu, we will visit Cape Sata, the most southern point of Japan, to complete our end to end tour of the country. Our overnight stays will be in hotels close to railway stations and there will be a variety of smaller cities visited along with the larger cities of Osaka, Okayama, Nagasaki, Kagoshima, Hakata, and Hiroshima. Our journey will end in Tokyo.
For those who travelled with us this year and enjoyed the experience, we hope we can encourage you to join us in 2019 to complete the rail tour of Japan, enjoying some of the railways in the Southern half of Japan.
Tour participants will need to carry their own luggage, board trains multiple times unaided, walk a kilometre plus, and navigate uneven surfaces including stairs.
Continuing our travels on Shikoku, we depart Uwajima on the JR Yodo line for a 2 hour journey to Kubokawa where we change trains to the Limited Express Ashizuri 4 for Kochi. A lunch break here before returning to Okayama via the Oboke Gorge on Limited Express Nanpu 18.
