Tour Highlights
Morocco is a land of dramatic contrasts with vast deserts, snow-capped mountains and – surprising to some – vast tracts of beautiful and productive agricultural land.  Ancient ruins, sacred mosques and imposing fortresses reflect its history, and spirited markets offer a melange of foods and artisan products.
We’ll discover exquisite ceramics, fabrics, brass and ironware, rugs and so much more. Observe craftspeople using the same techniques as their ancestors. Be enchanted by street performers and musicians.  We’ll understand the influence of Berbers, Jews, Arabs, and the Portuguese and French.  Morocco is a tolerant and proud country.
Our 5 star and boutique accommodation includes beautiful character-filled, heritage buildings where we’ll sense how past communities lived.  Lunch in the hillside garden of Italian horticulturist Umberto Pasti, author of 'The Age of Flowers' and ‘Eden Revisited: A Garden in Northern Morocco'. Discover why designers, writers, gardeners and artists continue to be drawn to these evocative places, and why you will most likely want to return.

Itinerary
After arriving in Casablanca we proceed to Morocco’s capital, Rabat. Dinner at Riad.
(Meals: D)

After breakfast walk through the medina (old city) of Rabat - one of Morocco’s four ancient imperial cities. Encounter an intriguing fusion of historic and contemporary elements as you explore the fortified Kasbah of the Oudaias, the peaceful Andalusian Gardens, and the necropolis of Chellah built on ancient Roman ruins. Lunch at a local restaurant followed by more medina wanderings. Dinner at the hotel.

(Meals: B, L, D)

Visit to the newly-opened Museum of Contemporary Art. Depart for Tangier. Dinner at the hotel.

(Meals: B, D)
A special day experiencing Tangier through the eyes and dreams of expat Australian writer Pin Affleck. An hour from bustling Tangier we make a special visit to Rohuna where Milan born writer and collector Umberto Pasti has built a stone cottage and enchanting garden. We lunch in the hillside setting overlooking the ocean which Pasti describes as his spiritual home. Drawn here by its beauty, wild flowers and the kindness of its people, Pasti, who’s designed gardens in France and Italy, says his Morocco garden is as much about the people as plants.
(Meals: B)

Depart for Chefchaouen. A walking tour of the remarkable Blue City. Afternoon free. Dinner and overnight in Chefchaouen.

(Meals: B, D)

Depart Chefchaouen for Fez this morning stopping along the way in Meknes, Morocco’s youngest imperial city (and World Heritage site). Visit the Bab el Mansour gateway and the ruins of the imperial stables before lunch in a local restaurant. Continue to the ancient Roman ruins at Volubilis known for its intricate and colourful mosaics. Dinner in the Fez hotel.

(Meals: B, L, D)

We explore Morocco’s oldest imperial city, aka “Athens of Africa”, beginning with a walking tour of Fes’ fascinating medina. Our focus will be artisans’ quarters, the 14th-century Koranic schools, and Al Karaouine, the medieval theological university. After some time at leisure we’ll tour the old mellah (Jewish quarter) and its 17th-century synagogue, the royal gates, and the Museum of Fes.
(Meals: B, L, D)

This morning return to the medina to explore hidden treasures including the Blue Gate, the medieval school of Bouanania, and the 12th-century home of Jewish scholar Maimonides. Then in the traditional quarter, we watch artisans craft acclaimed Fes pottery and ceramics. Relax this afternoon before dinner at the hotel.
(Meals: B, D)

Cross the fertile plains beyond Fes to the Middle Atlas mountain range. Densely forested slopes of cedar, cork, and pine give way to arid steppes on historic routes where Berbers once fled from Arab invaders. Stop for lunch in the small town of Midelt then cross the Ziz River, passing rows of palm trees and villages before reaching your hotel in Erfoud late in the day. Dinner at the hotel.

(Meals: B, D)

After breakfast visit the city of Rissani to explore its 18th-century ksar, a virtually impenetrable warren of alleys. Conclude the day with a sunset excursion to the breathtaking sand dunes at Merzouga. In the vast silence of the Sahara Desert watch the sun set over endless dunes from atop a camel. Dinner and accommodation at the luxury desert camp.

(Meals: B, L, D)

Today’s journey is to the snow-capped High Atlas. See the terraced riverside village of Tinehir and spectacular Todra Gorges, home to rare bird and plant species. Spend the evening in the town of Ouarzazate – the “door of the desert”. Dinner at the hotel.

(Meals: B, D)
En route to Marrakech tour Ait ben-Haddou, a World Heritage site. In its old section, deep red kasbahs are packed together so tightly they appear to be a single unit. Descend from the High Atlas, passing through typical fortified villages with stone houses and earthen roofs. We’ll arrive in Marrakech late afternoon with time to relax before dinner at the hotel.
(Meals: B, L, D)
Today we tour the imperial city of Marrakech, once Morocco’s southern capital. Begin at the beautiful Koutoubia Mosque with its distinctive minaret, then continue to the Andalusian-style El Bahia Palace, followed by the ruins of the 16th-century Palais El Badii. Lunch at a delightful café in Marrakech’s bustling souk and wander through myriad stalls with carpets, leather goods and wares created by local artisans.  Evening at leisure.
(Meals: B, L)

We’ll have plenty of time to explore the exotic and stylish Marjorelle Garden, the newly renovated Berber Museum, and the exquisite Yves Saint Laurent Museum just next door. Dinner at the hotel.

(Meals: B, D)

A morning ramble through the medina and a visit to the beautiful Le Jardin Secret. Return to Casablanca and visit the magnificent Hassan II Mosque. Our farewell dinner is a time to reflect on your Moroccan sojourn.

(Meals: B, D)
Depart Casablanca for individual flights home.
