About your tour leader - Marian Howell
This tour will be led by the well-known Australian Ceramicist, Marian Howell who will provide expert commentary on ceramics during the tour. Marian is a past president of The Australian Ceramics Association, a former Head of Ceramics at the National Art School and the Ceramics Design Studio, Sydney. Currently potting and teaching part time, and immersing herself in the pleasures of ceramics and culture.

Itinerary
Transfer from airport to hotel in Shanghai.
After breakfast, we will walk along the famous Bund past the facades of the colonial buildings lining the Huangpu River and look across to the soaring TV tower and fantastic skyscrapers of the Pudong district on the opposite side. Following this you will visit the beautifully maintained Yu Garden, an outstanding example of a classical garden dating from the 16th century, now surrounded by a bustling market area. Later today you will be transferred to train station for high-speed train to Jingdezhen. Upon arrival, coach transfer to your accommodation.

You will have opportunities to see clay producers, throwers, sculptors, mould makers, blue & white decorators, glaze shops, and public kilns, including demonstrations as well as participating in specialist workshops that will give an exciting opportunity to experience first-hand some of the techniques that have made this area famous. Some pieces from the ceramic workshops will be fired for tour members to bring home. Please contact Opulent Journeys for separate workshop program.

After breakfast, we will travel to Hangzhou by high-speed train. In the afternoon, we will visit the Southern Song Dynasty Guan Kiln Museum. With the tasteful display, substantial content and comfortable environment, it is the first unique museum themed on ceramics in China.

Today we depart Hangzhou for Shanghai. We will visit the renowned Shanghai Museum which is famous for its collection of paintings, sculptures, porcelain, costumes, ancient bronzes and other artefacts. This evening, we will spend some time explore Nanjing Road. Stretching for almost 5 kilometres from the Bund through to Jing’an Temple, Nanjing Road features over 600 business including massive modern multi-level shopping malls, historic stores, specialty stores, theatres, world-class hotels, attractions and much more.
